  • 5 Things Ai Taught Me About Leadership

In conversation with Priya Mathilakath Pillai, Head of HR (Retail, Corporate & Manufacturing)

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how organisations think, work, and lead. But for Priya, the most interesting lessons AI has offered aren't about technology at all. They're about people. We sat down with her to talk about curiosity, clarity, and why she sees AI as a partner rather than a replacement.

It sounds simple, but it's been genuinely humbling. AI has taught me to slow down and think about how I'm framing a problem before I chase a solution. A vague question gets a vague response—from a machine or a human. The discipline of asking sharper, more thoughtful questions has quietly made me a better leader.

In HR, we sit on an enormous amount of information (employee feedback, workforce insights, learning trends, business priorities). On their own, these are just fragments. AI has helped me weave them together into a story that actually informs decisions. Instead of reacting to isolated signals, I can see the bigger picture and act on it with confidence.

The idea is to listen better and act smarter. By bringing employee insights into one connected space, we can understand what our people are really experiencing. The result is richer insights, better decisions, and more meaningful employee experiences. It's less about the technology itself and more about what it lets us do for our people.

I'd hand that over in a heartbeat! Not because it's unimportant, but because I'd far rather spend that time on the things only humans can do well—strategy, innovation, and above all, people. AI freeing those hours isn't just about efficiency; it's about redirecting energy toward what truly matters.

This one keeps me honest. It's easy to fall in love with your own conclusions. Asking AI to push back—to surface my blind spots and question my assumptions—has become one of my favourite daily habits. Good leadership needs someone willing to challenge you, and sometimes that challenger is a well-crafted prompt.

The Bigger Picture

For Priya, the throughline across all five lessons is a single conviction:

"At Titan, we don't see AI as a replacement for people. We see it as a force multiplier for human potential."

The payoff, in her words, is deeply human: "More time for creativity. More room for empathy. Better decisions. Stronger human connections."

And perhaps that's the real lesson AI has to teach about leadership—not how to think like a machine, but how to make more room to think, and lead, like a human.
