Incorporation Titan Watches Ltd

The business idea of Titan Watches was conceived in the early 1980s. The idea of venturing into the watch industry was turned to a winning reality in June 1984. Titan Watches is established as a joint venture between Tata Industries & the Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO) - an iconic journey had begun.

The first set of watch protos

First print advertisement

The iconic print advertisement created by Ogilvy & Mather; showcasing a catalogue of beautiful watches. Consumers would walk in to stores with cuttings from the ad.

Titan Watch Factory, Hosur - Inauguration

Mr J.R.D. Tata along with Mr Xerxes Desai and Mr Perett, France Ebausche.

1988

Mumbai Showroom Inauguration

Launch of the first company owned store in Bengaluru. Store inaugurated by Mr J.R.D. Tata in the presence of Mr Xerxes Desai and Mr A.L. Mudaliar, TIDCO chairman.

1990

JV with Timex

A joint venture from the year 1992. Helped by the JV, Timex was next only to Titan in popularity. After dissolution of this partnership in 1998, Titan reclaimed the share, with the launch of Sonata.

1992

Raga collection

Launch of specially designed ladies watches, with Indian motifs and interchangeable fabric straps. Raga was later relaunched and is today Titan's most successful sub brand.

Launch in Europe

Titan enters the European market, followed by the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Titan's watches have sold over 15 million pieces across 32 countries. Tanishq is also now available in GCC, and more recently in the US.

PSI 2000

Titan introduces rugged sporty watches with serious features like 200m water resistance, and high precision chronographs.

1994

Tanishq Jewellery launch

Tanishq opens its first boutique on CathedralRoad, Chennai. The exclusively designed jewellery is made in 18Kt gold, with diamonds.

Free a Dream - CSR for CRY

Titan supported a microlight flying programme in Aug 1998 - Free a Dream, in support of CRY.

Karatmeter in stores

A simple device with industrial applications was adapted for customer facing karatage testing. The Tanishq Karatmeter shook the industry and brought to light prevalent market malpractices. The Karatmeter was a game changer for Tanishq, helping it forge deep bonds of trust with consumers.

Edge - The slimmest watch in the universe

A horological marvel, the 3.65 mm watch - the slimmest watch in the universse - blends form and functionality. It continues to capture the imagination of watch enthusiasts world over.

Tanishq's Golden Harvest Scheme launches

A unique scheme that allows customers to make regular monthly contributions and earn a bonus amount from Tanishq. The scheme helped fulfil consumers' desire to own exclusive Tanishq jewellery.

Fastrack relaunched

Fastrack launches as a youth brand - with an attitude - its trendy and fashionable watches designed to cater to the burgeoning youth opportunity.

Titan signs Aamir Khan

Titan teams up with Aamir Khan for its memorable advertising campaign "Whats your style".

Raga relaunch

Raga launches as a sub brand with Rani Mukherjee as its brand ambassador.

2006

Jodha Akbar

Film Jodha Akbar releases and enjoys blockbuster status. The jewellery for the period film is entirely designed and crafted by Tanishq. The Jodha Akbar collection helped establish Tanishq as a serious player in the kundan and polki jewellery segment.

Titan Eye + established

Titan enters the prescription eyewear business with the launch of its first eyewear store at Safina Plaza, Bangalore.

Tanishq launches Zoya boutique

Zoya's first boutique launches in Delhi, offering premium differentials and experiences to customers while retaining the promise of Tanishq's quality. Zoya jewellery is designed for connoisseurs who prefer contemporary jewellery and demand outstanding design and innovation.

Helios' first store opens

Titan Company forays into premium multi brand watch retailing with Helios. The store houses the most distinguished high-end international brands such as Fossil, Nina Ricci, Seiko, Versace, Citizen, Hugo Boss.

Titan's topline crosses USD 1 billion

For the financial year 2009-2010 Titan Company crosses the Billion dollar revenue milestone, for the first time.

Commonwealth Games Queen's Baton

Built with aluminium and gold, soil from different nation countries is set in channels on the surface of the baton. Queen Elizabeth’s message is engraved on a miniature 18-carat gold leaf. Designed by Foley Design alongwith Titan and Bharat Electronics, the baton is a delicate mix of aesthetics and technology, with an in-built location tracking system and a camera capable of sending images to the Games website.

Launch of Mia by Tanishq

Tanishq launches Mia, a brand with a stunning range of fine, urban chic, affordable jewellery crafted for working women.

Titan launches Skinn fragrances

Titan enters the perfume market, launches SKINN; redefines the Indian fragrance industry. Designed in house and created by world reknowned master perfumers, Skinn is made and bottled in France.

Titan Industries new corporate identity

To mark the completion of 25 years Titan Industries rebrands as Titan Company Limited, to more closely reflect the lifestyle segments that it operates in. The new corporate logo, designed by Ray & Keshavan, conveys the commitment to drive innovation, nurture talent, create value and delight consumers.

Titan opens its 1000th store

Titan becomes the first Indian company with 1000 stores in seven varied formats under watches, jewellery, eyewear.

TEAL established

Titan forms a new subsidiary, TEAL. Originally the inhouse engineering team dedicated to high precision component manufacturing, designing and automation solutions, TEAL (Titan Engineering & Automation Limited) now caters to global clients from the Automotive, Aerospace & Defence industries.

Titan buys majority stake in Caratlane

Titan Company acquires majority stake in online jewellery startup CaratLane. The brand offers consumers beautiful modern designs and a seamless omni channel experience.

Taneira opens first store

Taneira aims to revive one of the oldest occupations in our country – handloom weaving and the oldest garment, the saree. The first store in Bangalore provides an intimate shopping environment that allows for relaxed browsing. Taneira brings together under one roof, the finest collections of handcrafted sarees from across India.

Titan launches its first smart watch JUXT

JUXT, Titan's first smartwatch, is designed in partnership with HP. Driven by a dual caliber mechanism – housing an analog Titan caliber 6130 and a digital module the smartwatch’s features includes incoming call notifications, receiving email and social media notifications.

HUG Innovations aqui-hire

Titan acqui-hires Hyderabad-based wearable and internet of things (IoT) platform startup HUG Innovations; which has been transformed into Titan Smart Labs.

This extraordinary product combines earphones, glasses, and fitness bands, all into one power packed device. Powered by advanced Qualcomm chips with Clear Voice Capture and Noise Dependent Voice Control technologies, EyeX offers an unmatched immersive experience.

Titan Watches Launches Slim Mechanical Edge

It took 5 years for the Titan Watches team to design and engineer this sensational movement. This 2.2 mm Slim Mechanical Edge movement is one of the slimmest commercially produced mechanical movements in the world. It has 106 precision parts, 81 of which are manufactured in our Hosur factory.

Titan Company launches its latest brand IRTH, thoughtfully designed women's handbags brand. The products are created with detailing and craftsmanship, including limitless organising space.

Tanishq enters US market

Tanishq enters the US market with its first store in New Jersey’s Little India. The store was inaugurated by U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman and Senator Mr Robert Menendez and Mr C.K. Venkataraman.

Titan Watches unveiled Titan Stellar, the brand’s new line of space inspired watches. Titan invited Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to travel to space to grace the event

(DEC), have won the German  Design  Award 2025, for  the  Zoya  Ring  from Aeterna  collection  in the category of Excellent Product Design – Luxury Goods. Sangeeta Dewan, Head of  Design  for  Zoya  is  the  designer  of  this  award  winning  masterpiece.
