Durga Pujo has always been more than a festival. It is the sound of dhaak in the distance, the familiar bustle of family preparations, the fragrance of festive mornings and the feeling of returning to the people and places that make us who we are. For many Bengali women, it is also a time when the saree becomes part of that homecoming.

A saree may begin as something admired from afar: a mother getting ready before stepping out for Pujo, the soft rustle of fabric, the careful pleats, the anchal placed just so. Over the years, it becomes something borrowed, learned, styled and eventually made one’s own. It carries memories of childhood, family rituals and the quiet confidence that comes with growing into oneself.

This is the emotion at the heart of Taneira’s Durga Pujo campaign, “মায়ের হাত থেকে তোমার হাতে” — From a Mother’s Hands to Yours. The campaign follows a daughter’s evolving relationship with the saree across the different chapters of her life.

Complementing the campaign is Taneira’s Pujo ’26 Edit, designed for the many moods and moments of Durga Pujo. At its heart is the Laal Paar Range, comprising 31 designs inspired by the iconic red-and-white saree; an enduring symbol of Bengali festive dressing, especially during the celebrations of Ashtami and Dashami. The edit also includes sarees crafted in Murshidabad silk, Tussar, Banaras silk, organza and embroidered silks, offering a rich palette of textures for everything from intimate family rituals to lively pandal-hopping evenings.

There is a beautiful duality in dressing for Pujo today. One can choose a classic red-and-white saree that feels rooted in tradition, or embrace softer neutrals, vivid jewel tones, woven textures and contemporary embellishments. The spirit remains the same: to dress with joy, celebrate with loved ones and make the festival feel distinctly one’s own.
